The Arc’teryx Endorphin range for women
Product review: Niandi Carmont from RUN wild RUN free checks out the Arc’teryx Endorphin range
So, Ian form Talk Ultra got the golden ticket and flew out to the Pyrenees. He ran up a VerticalK and had three days of what appeared to be a great time in the mountains… don’t worry, I am not jealous. Honest! You can read his review here.
All very well being out in the Pyrenees with stunning views, the sun beating down and quad/ lung busting climbs for company but my normal day-to-day running is on local trails with some undulations and real varying temperatures. One moment it is sunny and warm, the next it is cold and wet. I have been running ultras on road and trail for years. I have run multi-stage, 100 milers, trail, road and mountains and I understands the needs not only of a runner but also the specific demands and needs of a female runner.
Cita Tank Top
Well before I even tried on any of the Arc’teryx products I was impressed with the design and color. As a female ultra-runner my focus is obviously on comfort and technical criteria. My sports kit must fit comfortably and it must be adapted to the female morphology. But if the clothing is feminine too it’s a bonus!
As far as the technical aspect of the Cita Tank is concerned it is entirely chafe-free! The tank has an integrated shelf bra with a comfort elastic band. In addition to this the tight yet comfortable fit reduced any potential ‘bounce’ and all female athletes know how important it is to protect that delicate skin on breasts. The Cita Tank rear vent on the back also added to the breathability of the garment. This versatile moisture-wicking top with a comfortable mesh lining and smooth face-fabric also allows for easy layering. The cherry on the cake? It is feminine and girly – tapered to fit the female figure and comes in a lovely grenadine or lemongrass color.
The Skort is definitely one of my favorites and an indispensable must-have part of my run kit. Why? Okay I like to look good when I’m running and when you’re running ultra-trail that’s no mean feat. I was complimented by quite a number of male and female runners on this cute addition to my run kit in my last race!
Okay it is cute, feminine and sexy but what about the technical aspects? A winner here too – this lightweight, versatile skort (skirt/short combination) with an inner boxer-length mesh liner and stretch-woven waistband to enhance comfort and freedom of movement is ideally suited to trail running in all weather – I ran 14 hours in rain, sun, cold, wind and finished without chafing marks.
The integrated mesh boxer brief is so comfortable and the snug-fitting Altavela™ stretch polyester around the waist and Invigor™ LT stretch woven polyester for the skirt are a perfect combination.
A low wide waistband adds support, while a small discrete stash pocket on the hem of the integrated brief holds small items like Kleenex, tampons, keys or gels.
Motus Crew SS
This relaxed fit, short-sleeved, crew neck shirt Motus Crew constructed using Phasic Technology textile is ideal for all-weather trail activities. It is so light-weight and ideal for layering. Superior moisture management and rapid dry times meant I was never uncomfortable when I switched from power-hiking up tough ascents to running faster on flatter terrain or faster down-hill descents.
Encapsulated silver-ion fibres provide durable, long-lasting odor control. Reflective blazes increase visibility in low light which was ideal for me when I finished my trail race at night. A zippered pocket on the rear hip can stow small items like gels, kleenex, coins, keys.
The Cita Jacket is a great piece of kit for cooler weather conditions especially if you are out for a long training session with showers interspersed with sunny spells. Trim fitting and extremely lightweight it packs away conveniently.
The fabric is highly breathable and water-resistant so evacuates sweat but keeps out the rain. The open mesh underarm panels keep body heat under control and the reflective blazes improve visibility on those night runs. A great innovative feature is the slight drop hem. This protects the lower back area especially if you are carrying a ruck-sack. And it stows away compactly and conveniently into its own pocket. This pocket also includes media storage and earphone outlet, perfect if you like running with music. A compulsory item in unpredictable weather on longer runs.
Cita 3/4 Tight
Very practical for running on trails or road, the Cita ¾ tight offers great protection against shrubs, nettles, bush, and undergrowth. I initially found the tight a little less comfortable than the skort as it is as the name suggests ‘tight’. In the Skort I size small but would take medium in the tight. However, after a few hill repeats I soon got used to the tight fit and it seemed to ‘loosen’ a little. It is equipped with breathable mesh panels in the small of the back and behind the knee to vent perspiration. The flat-locked seams, articulated patterning and a gusseted crotch add freedom of movement.
It has a slanted zippered pocket which stores small items like keys. Scotchlite™ reflective trim on thighs and knees and a reflective logo enhances visibility in low light.
Motus Crew LS
This long-sleeved Motus Crew LS shirt constructed using Phasic Technology textile is great for cooler in-between weather conditions – going into winter or coming out of winter. Lightweight and highly breathable with a flattering waist cut to fit the female figure it is perfect for trail running and speed-hiking or trekking.
It wicks perspiration and dries quickly. Not only does the longer hip length work well with both the skort and the ¾ tight but it also doesn’t ‘ride up’ when you are carrying a back-pack, bladder or ruck-sack.
Female Summary of the Incendo Range
Ultra trail is a tough sport and it’s really hard to look good as a female runner when you’re fatigued, sweating and breathing hard.
I always like to know I look good whatever the training session or event, and the female Endorphin Range looks good, fits perfectly and the colors are flattering. The single-tone colours are so easy to mix and match and they are vibrant. Arc’teryx have made a colour option for every woman!
More importantly they are highly technical, breathable, lightweight and extremely comfortable. For me this is the perfect combination.
Arc’teryx have balanced the synergy of great looks, great fit and specific sport fit to make the Endorphin range one to definitely consider when looking for a new range of fun clothing irrespective of the distance or the terrain that you run on.
