Guess what, very little news… but hey David Laney and Magdalena Boulet were voted ultra runners of the year via UltraRunning Magazine.
The incredible Ed Ettinghausen aged 53 ran 481.86 miles at the Across the Years 6-day to beat David Johnson’s 450.37. Full results from the weekend are HERE

Hi Ian,
great podcast — as always — and it was especially fun to me listening to your 2-day fastpacking story. I did the Transvulcania route just around the same time in 4 days with my brother and you mentioning the hydration issue made me smile, because we faced exactly the same issue :-). However, right before we started our trip, a local girl from Puerto de Tazacorte told us that you can get water at Roque de Los Muchachos. We heavily relied on her statement and I can’t describe how happy we were when we indeed found a tap at Roque de Los Muchachos right next to the information centre. We also refilled our bottles at Refugio de Punta de Los Roques (there is a tap next to the hut, and some guys that spend the night there told us that they drank the water the day before without causing any issues), Refugio de El Pilar (we took water from one of the many taps at the recreation area) and, of course, finally Los Canarios.
Anyways, sure enough it’s one of the most stunning places I’ve ever been and your GoPro video perfectly captures the beauty of the island.
At least, 4 months is not that long… 😀

Darn it Tobias, now you tell me. That is good info to know. I had considered trying the Refugio but quite a few people staying there when we passed and at that point I still had water (famous last words) but funnily I asked the National Park Warden an Roques and he said there was nothing? As you say, El Pilar is no problem. Still one of my fave places in the world.
